So for this century, the company developed a comprehensive environmental master plan for the city of Hanoi, Vietnam. The plan focused on managing water quality, air quality, solid waste, and included a series of structural and non-structural measures.

Water Supply and Sanitation
Water is critical to human life, the lack of access to clean water in cities and regions of rapid growth is a growing problem worldwide. The rapid population growth increases demand for water. Our company has the ability and experience to analyze the water resources potential and existing plans. We carry out feasibility studies, prepare preliminary design and detailed design, obtain necessary approvals, and provide oversight services to the water facilities, new or improved. We have similar abilities in wastewater engineering, and as the demand for waste water is directly related to water supply, infrastructure development and management of the two systems should be considered together. Nippon Koei also undertakes analytical studies to identify gaps in existing systems (such as unaccounted for water and billing inadequacies) and develop detailed strategies for recovery, including all aspects to improve the capacity of executives in the agencies responsible.
Solid Waste Management
We are highly trained in all aspects of planning and environmental implementation of solid waste management systems: collection and transportation of solid waste, waste transfer stations, recycling facilities, fertilizer plants, incinerators, and landfills. While the improper management of solid waste is often the lack of financial resources, the problem is in large part often caused by lack of experience in public administration and lack of technical knowledge. Therefore we also specialize in providing long-term solutions that emphasize the training and institutional development.
Urban Drainage
In Nippon Koei, we understand that the towns and cities prone to frequent floods are facing a clear obstacle to investment and economic growth. As a critical step in removing these impediments to growth, we identify several options considering biophysical, environmental, and social conditions. We develop detailed analysis of the expected benefits and provide an assessment based on other values (especially social and environmental) before determining optimal plans for drainage and flood protection. Recently, the company prepared a comprehensive master plan for renovation of the city of Astana in Kazakhstan with its approval as the new capital of the nation. The plan included a complete design space for the city, which involved a change in the role of various areas, provision of public green space, and strategies for the rehabilitation of critical infrastructure such as water, sewage and sanitation, and energy.
Planning and Disaster Management
The company blends our expertise with geology with our experience in urban development and transportation to take all facets of the analysis, planning, and management of disasters. We use the latest technology to assess the conditions and natural disaster model scenarios. We determine the interaction with the environment and propose solutions to existing engineering and planning. So far this century, the firm conducted a comprehensive planning study and a disaster response plan for the earthquake disaster in Kathmandu, Nepal, one of the world's most vulnerable seismic cities.
