The integrated management of water resources is a development process that involves coordinated management of water resources and land.  Its main purpose is to develop sustainable solutions that integrate the technical, economic, and social impact of water use.

The Nippon Koei Group provides a wide range of services for the management of water resources, such as flood control and mitigation, planning and development of reservoirs, water supply, river and river basin management improvements, and water policies and reforms, among others.

We offer a complete range of engineering services in planning, development, and management of water resources and sanitation, everything from strategic plans to complete implementation of programs, small to large developments, the rural to urban environment, for groundwater and surface water, for industrial use or municipal purposes for simple single or multi-facility, from dams and plants treatment systems distribution pipes, from streams to large structures watershed plans.

In sanitation, the company develops the full range of major projects such as the Bay of Panama City Sanitation project. 

Flood Control and Mitigation

The company possesses grand expertise in the field of flood damage mitigation.

Structural measures for flood control dams that we provide include, detention basins, river course improvements, diversion of flood pathways and drainage improvements.

Non-structural measures aimed at alleviating the flood damage are also in the Nippon Koei repertoire, including plans for land use, improvement of land and resettlement, flood forecasting and prevention systems, training and education of engineers and affected residents.

Dams and Development Planning

The firm has studied and managed reservoirs for a wide range of purposes, such as hydropower generation, irrigation, municipal and industrial water supply, aquatic farming, flood control, and river navigation. Some dams have been with a single purpose, while many others have been built with multiple intentions.  Some have been independent projects, while others have been part of extensive integrated water resources development plans.

We have studied, designed, and managed almost every type of reservoirs in heights beyond 200 meters. Our studies have involved research and analysis of geology, environmental impacts, and alternative construction of unprecedented dams in unprecedented detail and complexity in the early stages of planning.

Water Supply

The company has effectively completed over 200 development projects of irrigation, drainage and water supply in various countries around the world.  We design and build a wide variety of hydraulic structures such as dams, reservoirs, water channels and transmission and distribution pipes, and potable water treatment plants.  We have designed and supervised the construction of thousands of kilometers of primary, secondary and tertiary pipelines.

 

 

 

Improvement of Rivers and Watershed Management

The role of watershed management is vital to the conservation of resources and to meet the needs of people and ecosystems.  Our company has executed many projects in watershed management with the objective to stop degradation phenomena and to protect existing infrastructure, developing economic plans and studies which are technically sound, environmentally friendly and oriented to the welfare of the people and their communities.  To this end, strategies have been generated for conservation and rehabilitation of forests, conservation of river and lake margins, reduction of degraded land, institutional development, and community empowerment.

The firm has been hired for projects of integrated management, development, and administration of water resources such as the Solo Brant River Basin, one of the largest basins in Indonesia. We also completed a master plan for development of water resources in metropolitan Manila, Philippines.

In Peru we were signed to realize a Water Resources Management Plan for the Cajamarca Province for the Mashcón and Chonta river basins.  Also, the company carries out consultancy for training in watershed management and protection for 60 operating boards for potable water systems in rural El Salvador.

Water Policy Reform

The experience of our company extends beyond the purely technical, it also includes policies, laws and institutional experience.  The company has participated in the program for the design and implementation of reform programs in the water resources and irrigation sectors as well as the development of national plans for decentralization of public services through improvements of institutional, organizational and financial aspects.

Sanitation

In the area of sanitation, the company has extensive experience in sewerage and sewage treatment projects.  We have executed numerous sanitation projects in the cities of Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Yokohama in Japan.  We have also successfully implemented sanitation projects worldwide, including projects in countries like Panamá, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Jamaica, Perú, Bolivia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Malaysia, Qatar, Srilanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

In Latin America have performed significant sanitation works projects like water and sewage in the cities of Piura-Castilla and Chimbote in northern Peru, as well as in suburban areas of Lima.  In Panamá, the company has participated in the basic design of the interception system, preliminary engineering of a tunnel interceptor, construction supervision of the collector system improvements, and is currently performing consulting services to assist in the implementation of the construction of the interceptor and treatment system.
